Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus lowers the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, blindness, and limb loss. Sitagliptin works by increasing insulin production in the body after a meal and decreasing sugar production. Metformin works by restoring the body’s natural response to insulin and reducing sugar production.
